A message from John Waldron, CEO of The Center

John Waldron, CEO of The Center

Happy Pride Month!

Happy Pride Month to everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community of Southern Nevada and our allies. We have much to celebrate living in a state where most of our political and community leaders recognize and celebrate alongside the rich and vibrant residents that make up the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, gender nonconforming, and all the wonderfully diverse groups who identify as members of the queer community. June is a month where we remember Stonewall and the original purpose of the Pride movement, to stand up for ourselves, demand equal rights, and live safely as our authentic selves. We’re fortunate to live in Nevada, where we have protections and support for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families, while we also stay vigilant to insist progress continues and hard won victories are not reversed.

The Center is a place where everyone is welcome to celebrate what it means to live authentically and to receive nonjudgmental support and harm reduction resources and services. Our progress over the past couple years has been significant and we are sincerely grateful to our supporters who helped us increase our impact in the community.

As The Center approaches our 30thyear in 2023, we will be opening soon our onsite pharmacy to support the growing services in the Arlene Cooper Community Health Center. We are excited to announce we will be refurbishing the Lanny D. Love Event Center in July to help ensure our community has a beautiful space in which to gather and engage with one another.

And The Center is working with local supporters, government agencies, businesses and community groups to expand our footprint in downtown Las Vegas as our clinic grows and our programs and services rapidly increase. Needing additional space is a great challenge to solve and we are excited to share with our constituents plans for growth and opportunity to better serve Southern Nevada.

There are events all month at The Center and in the community that provide opportunities to gather, support, and celebrate Pride. Information can be found soon our website here.

And we are excited for this Pride month as we prepare to present the play Rent in partnership with Broadway in the Hood. The Broadway in the Hood team plans to transform The Center into a Rent theme including a partnership with our café, The Jolt, to recreate the Life Café in our lobby. More information can be found at www.broadwayinthehood.org.

We’re looking forward to the 2022 Honorarium at Resorts World on October 14th where we will honor community members Laura Sussman (Person of the Year), Raul Daniels (Center Legacy Award), Russell Davis (Volunteer of the Year), and our soon to be announced recipient of the Lanny D. Love Hero Award. Information on the Honorarium, including sponsorship opportunities, ticket sales, and other partnership opportunities can be found here.

Please stop by The Center this month to engage in our programs, services, and events, or to say hello and have coffee and a meal at The Jolt. We welcome everyone in our community and our allies to participate in Pride in a safe and affirming space. Our Center is stronger than ever and our future could not be more exciting.

Best regards for a wonderful and fun month of Pride!
