More than 150 people attended GenderFest at The Center on March 26 to celebrate transgender, non-binary, genderfluid, Two-Spirit, Intersex, and other gender-diverse communities. The Center produced the event in partnership with Gender Justice.
There were sessions about trans-affirming medical care, mental health and recovery, Intersex issues, gender diverse youth, trans veterans, faith and religion, and trans ally training. In panel discussions, Wynn Tashman, The Center’s Diversity Programs Manager, and Percy Neavez, it’s Youth Resource Specialist, spoke. And the local author of Young Adult Fiction, Vicki-Ann Bush, shared her book.
The Jolt provided refreshments, and event sponsor PublicUs provided lunch. Other event sponsors included Institute for a Progressive Nevada, Q Vegas, and Silver State Equality.
“The Center respects the full circle of human qualities, unique identities, perspectives, and abilities. Through events like GenderFest, our team works to address health disparities and barriers to care for transgender communities,” says John Waldron, Ed.D, Chief Executive Officer at The Center.
The LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada holds diversity, equity, and inclusion as intrinsic values and strives to ensure these values are reflected at every turn.
