Census Day is April 1st! Get counted. LGBTQ People matter!
The LGBTQ community has a long history of looking out for each other. It might not feel like a protest, a food drive, taking in someone in need, or calling a representative, but if you go right now and fill out the Census, you’re really doing each one of those things. Many essential services that our community receives from federal funds depend on the Census count to decide how much funding will be available for things like roads, schools, health services, emergency assistance, and many other important programs.
Right now, the Census Bureau's job of door-to-door counting becomes even more challenging. Completing the online census is fast and easy. If you have received a mailer from the Census, just follow the instructions. If not, you can still complete the online form.
Get counted! Visit: http://census.nv.gov.
You may have concerns about answering the gender questions. Though there are a lot of mixed signals out there, by the Census’s own information, you should answer according to your gender identity, even if the wording sounds otherwise. Your answers are not cross-referenced with any other documentation and do not need to match any official documents. Answer however feels best to you, or not at all. The most important thing is that you complete the Census so that Nevada will get our fair share of resources to build better lives and for the people who live here. Your community is counting on you, so be counted!
To encourage LGBTQ people in the community to get out the word and get counted, we hosting a competition for Las Vegas LGBTQ community members to submit original content to share on social media to encourage people to complete the Census for a chance to win $100!! The winner will be chosen based on: quality of content, relevance of information to the LGBTQ community/communities, and total reach on social media by the end of April. Please share your submissions to this thread and use the hashtag #TheCenterLVCensus2020.
