The Center to Host Free Onsite HIV Testing for World AIDS Day
LAS VEGAS, November 25, 2019 — In recognition of World AIDS Day, The LGBTQ+ Center of Southern Nevada is hosting a World AIDS Day Community Event in partnership with the Southern Nevada Health District at 401 S. Maryland Parkway Las Vegas, NV 89101 on Saturday, November 30th from 11 am to 3 pm.
The community event is an opportunity to show solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV worldwide and highlight local efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.
Everyone is invited to attend a heart-felt day of activities, including food, music, guest speakers, performers, and touching tributes. Free onsite HIV testing will be provided by the Southern Nevada Health District at The Center Wellness Clinic on a first-come, first-served basis; appointments are not necessary.
“The commemoration of World AIDS Day, which will take place on Sunday, December 1st, is an important time to recognize that HIV testing and prevention can save lives and the essential role communities have played, and continue to play, in the AIDS response at the national, regional and local levels,” said John Waldron, Executive Director for The Center.
In Clark County, as of 2019, approximately 10,000 people are living with HIV and of those 427 were newly diagnosed with the virus. African Americans accounted for 2 percent, Hispanic/Latinos accounted for 25 percent, and whites accounted for 41 percent of all new HIV diagnoses.
The Center is proud to offer complimentary rapid HIV testing and counseling to Nevada residents year-round. Our goal is to empower people with an awareness of their own situations and allow them to take control of their lives. The full testing schedule is available online. Proof of Nevada residency, including a photo ID, is required.
